About LoanTools

What this site is, why it was built, and what it deliberately does not do.

Why LoanTools exists

Most EMI calculators show a single number and stop there. LoanTools was built around a different question: not just “what’s my EMI,” but where every rupee of that EMI actually goes — how much is interest versus principal, how that split changes month by month, and what a loan costs in total once fees are included. The goal is to make loan mechanics understandable to someone with no finance background, using their own real numbers.

What LoanTools is

LoanTools is an independent, ad-supported website offering a free EMI/loan cost calculator and original educational content about how Indian loan repayments work — EMI calculation, amortization, interest behavior, tenure trade-offs, and processing fees. Every calculation runs locally in your browser; see the privacy policy for details.

What LoanTools is not

LoanTools is not, and does not claim to be:

  • A bank, NBFC, lender, or loan broker.
  • Affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any specific bank or financial institution.
  • A source of personalized financial, investment, or legal advice.
  • A credit bureau, or a service that checks, reports, or affects your credit score.
  • A loan application, approval, or disbursement platform of any kind.

See the disclaimer for the full explanation of what the calculator’s estimates do and don’t represent.

How the calculator works

The calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula applied throughout Indian lending, with every formula, rounding rule, and assumption documented in full on the methodology page. The underlying calculation code is covered by an automated test suite that checks it against known EMI values, edge cases (zero interest, very short and very long tenures, large and small loan amounts), and internal consistency (for example, that total principal repaid always equals the original loan amount).

How this site is funded

LoanTools is free to use and is supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisements are kept clearly labeled and separated from the calculator and educational content, and never placed where they could interfere with using the calculator. See the privacy policy for how advertising on this site works.
